SADD Club to Host Star-Themed Prom Night

Come one, and come all — SADD club is hosting Herkimer County Community College’s Prom. This formal dance will be held in the school’s recreational gym on Friday, April 22 from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.

The theme is ‘Under the Stars’. The gym will be set with a DJ, food tables, tables to eat at, and a dance floor. For decorations there will be a red carpet set up with a camera, a photo booth, star projector machines, and twinkly lights. There is also a plan for a TikTok dance contest with prizes being given to the winner.

Amy Fahey, the coordinator of SADD club, said, “it will be like stars [celebrities] under the stars.”

The dance will only be open to HCCC students, and masks are not required.

Although some students are excited for a prom, there were also students confused on why a college is holding such a formal dance, with some even saying that they thought prom was only a high school thing.

But after hearing Fahey’s reasoning, many changed their minds. According to Fahey, “the main reason we decided to plan and host this prom is simply because a big majority of our students actually missed out on this fun high school experience due to COVID restrictions, so we want to give them that back in a way we can.”

If you’re interested in joining the dance committee there will be three more meetings held in RMCC 116, the conference room right across from the cafeteria, every Thursday leading up to the dance. The meetings go from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Interested students can also join the meeting via Microsoft Teams.
