On Feb. 9 in the RMCC lower lobby, the “IX on the 9s Real Talk” and build your own pizza event was held.
Title IX covers sex discrimination in education. Vicki Brown, Title IX Coordinator for Students and the Director of Student Activities, has a few important jobs. She provides resources for students and makes sure everyone feels safe. She also educates students, faculty, and staff about Title IX.
Brown wants to help people become more comfortable with discussing Title IX. She said that Title IX doesn’t just cover romantic relationships; it also applies to relationships with friends and family.
Brown also discussed how being the Title IX coordinator can come with some challenges. Brown said she has to keep issues confidential and can’t share them with anyone. She emphasized how everyone deserves “the same level of respect” and has to keep her own biases out, needing to remain neutral.
Brown holds these events on the ninth of every month. Each month has a different theme. When choosing an event, she picks what will be fun and engaging to students. Brown said, “The goal is to find fun ways to drive home consent.”

At this event, each person received a foundation of consent pizza. Everyone had to find five correct toppings or statements about consent. People received pizza-themed prizes such as keychains, snap bracelets, or pens.
