Candidates Line Up for Herkimer Mayoral Race

Three candidates are running for Herkimer Mayor, but who will take the seat? Former Mayor Mark Netti, Dominick Scalise, and former Herkimer Police Chief Michael Jory are all up for the run of Herkimer Mayor. These three candidates have various solutions to address numerous issues going on throughout the village including law enforcement, finances, infrastructure, and supporting local businesses and families in Herkimer, NY.

Current mayor Dana Sherry has been in office since 2022. During her time as mayor, she has worked towards fixing up the downtown area, trying to bring new businesses and life to the old, unused buildings.

Mayor Mark Netti, who was mayor before Dana Sherry,  announced a need for change in the village in a Facebook post. Netti expressed his hopes to make the village of Herkimer active once again. Netti expressed his desire to hear the community’s ideas on improving the village. “Change our path to the future by learning from our past,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Dominick Scalise, who is a village trustee, local businessman, and commander of the Herkimer VFW post, is also running for mayor. Scalise wrote on Facebook, “If elected mayor, I would like to make a difference in the way people look at our village.” He called for new leadership, saying the village had neglected its finances and infrastructure for far too long.

Lastly, Michael J. Jory, former Herkimer Police chief, joined the race as well. Jory feels that the community deserves leadership that is respectful, responsible, and focused on results. He emphasizes listening to every resident no matter one’s political opinions. Jory stated in an online Facebook campaign “I believe Village Hall should be a place of cooperation, actual transparency, and common sense…not conflict.”

A primary election will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, to determine the republican nominee. The general election for two trustee seats and mayor will be held on Tuesday, June 16th, 2026. Official results for the Herkimer village race will be available through the Herkimer County Board of Elections and the village clerk after the polls close, June 2026.
