Herkimer Alum Publishes History of Little Falls Textile Strike

A Herkimer College alumna has published a pioneering study of Mohawk Valley history. James Cheney, class of 2018, had his first monograph published in November of 2025.

Published by Algora Publishing, Women, Immigrants, and the Working-Class Battle in Little Falls, New York: The Textile Strike of 1912-1913 is the first non-fiction book to thoroughly reconstruct and analyze the events of the Little Falls Textile Strike. Cheney’s work chronicles the plight of working-class immigrant women from southern and eastern Europe and their fight for better wages, the help they received from the Industrial Workers of the World and a branch of the Socialist Party, and the challenges that they faced from local police and similar forces.

The book is available for sale at multiple online retailers including Amazon:
