The Herkimer College men’s lacrosse team delivered a dominant performance defeating Tompkins Cortland Community College 23-5 in a decisive victory. The Generals controlled the game from opening faceoff, setting the tone with a fast paced offense and big defensive efforts.
Leading the charge was Rayna Hoyt, who put together an outstanding performance with six goals and five assists. Hoyt’s ability to finish and facilitate played a key role in Herkimer’s offense, as he consistently found open teammate while also creating scoring opportunities for himself.
Herkimer also had three players record individual hat tricks in the win. Ryan Della Rocco, Zachary McMahon and Lenox Richard each netted three goals, and the trio contributed significantly to keep the pressure on Tompkins Cortland throughout the game.
The offense carried the game with clean passing and strong ball movement leading to scoring chances. Defensively, Herkimer limited opportunities and held them at five points after the first quarter, preventing Tompkins Cortland from building any rhythm.
“It was a great team effort. I felt like the offense had a good game and we finished a lot of the opportunities we were given,” Hoyt said. “Our defense and goalie played a huge part in the win as well. They did a great job stopping TC3 from scoring and then getting the ball down to us. What well take into the next game is the intensity we came out with and just continuing to be patient with the ball on offense and working together as a unit.”
Richard said “as a team we should’ve tried to run some more of our plays just to see what we can fix, but as a whole I feel like we didn’t do bad at all. Hard to complain about a game like that, but I think I should’ve passed the ball a little more and maybe tried using my left more.”
With the win, Herkimer improves its overall record to 2-3 in the season. The team continues to build momentum as it looks to like its coming together more consistent performances moving forward.
