Digital photography students at Herkimer College were asked to capture an image that shows the impact of the Coronavirus lockdown on their personal lives.
Alexis Garrison – This picture is my mom (Left) and another pharmacist Leslie (right) at work during this horrible pandemic. This white balance is purposefully off to create a gloomy feel. This affects me because my mom is an essential worker during these times and she is risking her life every day to help people.

Kaitlyn Jenks -This image showcases multiple face masks on a clothesline. I chose to use this as my photo because ever since masks have been required my dad’s work has sent home washable masks for each day of the week that he has to wear. I never thought that our laundry would consist of face masks as the result of a pandemic. I thought this picture displays something as normal as drying laundry with something new like having to wear face masks everywhere. It demonstrates how face masks have become the new normal.Javaun Smith – As you know all sporting events were put on hold due to the coronavirus. My first baseball game of the season was supposed to be on April 5. This photo reflects the personal impact that this pandemic has on me. Fields are still closed and I feel empty without baseball.
Elijeanah Monroe – This photo is taken from behind my front door looking out to my front porch, due to being at high risk, I can’t go outside so I can only view the world from behind a screen for now. I wouldn’t mind my photo being considered.
Michael Cook – One of the huge impacts the coronavirus has had is the shutting down of non-essential businesses. One place you could go to that was always packed on the weekends was the mall. As the picture shows because of the coronavirus, Sangertown Mall in New Hartford is empty with not a single person there. If you think about how many cars this parking lot would usually have and compare it to this picture, it is truly shocking to see the impact this pandemic has made. For me personally, I used to go here all the time on the weekends, but now I probably won’t be able to for a long time because of the virus.
Madison Ihnat – This image reflects the personal impact of Coronavirus because with all this craziness going on, there is nothing to do but entertain yourself. This photo makes me feel lonely and sad that there is nothing to do. The little brightness around the head make me think that his life right now is only himself because there is nothing else.
Melissa Daigneault – This picture of an empty dugout reflects how the Coronavirus had an impact on my life. I’ve always played sports and came to Herkimer to play softball and since the coronavirus outbreak occurred they had to cancel our season which was very upsetting.
James Piper – In this dark time, I see a world that has shut down streets that I would walk down and see people living their lives are desolate.
