Hard work and dedication during the spring is how the Herkimer women’s soccer team prepares for the fall.
Practices and workout sessions start up quickly as the team begins their pre-season. Damon Neish, who’s been the women’s soccer coach for four years, says “I feel confident” about the season and is excited for the games he has lined up for his players.
This season really is all about working hard to gain strength, speed, and skill, among other things. The 25 members have two 90-minute practices a week. Additional gym sessions of set workouts are specifically designed for team conditions two times a week. Neish insists in his players doing their given workouts at least four times a week for the best results possible during the fall.
Kadence York, team captain, star player, and consistent uplifter says, “Our workouts will be good because it’s getting us stronger and preventing injuries.” She herself is constantly persevering and helping others. During a workout York described her feelings about the season. “I’m excited for getting you guys to play a little bit more, you’ll get to get more experience as freshman, you guys will get a lot more playing time too.”
This is fantastic for the newer girls to keep learning, but this season isn’t only good for freshmen.
Doing this will prepare the sophomores if they plan to continue playing soccer at a larger school. York says “It’s going to help a lot of us that are moving on, we’ll kind of get more games in before going onto our four-year schools.”
Advancing in all aspects is the most important thing during this time. Clearly this is a very significant event for the women’s soccer team here at Herkimer College.
