New York Mets Have Shaky Start to Season

As a Mets fan I am excited for the season as we are off to a 7-11 start. The Mets looked great on Opening Day, but have looked shaky since then. I didn’t have expectations going into the season as we lost key pieces, but David Stearns has done a good job building the team and farm system. The Mets have promising prospects who have a chance of being good and helping this team.

I am not the only Mets fan who believes this team has what it takes. Vito Valenzi, Public Relations Assistant at Herkimer College and big Mets fan, believes they have what it takes, too. I was able to ask Vito some questions about the Mets and what he thinks about the season and what his expectations are.

The Mets are going to continue to improve and get better as the season goes on. I asked Vito how he was feeling about how the season has gone so far, and he said the season has been okay,  but he doesn’t love it. He said it’s still early, and that they have quality pitching and hitting.

The Mets have so many young players who could be the x-factor for this season.  Vito’s x-factor and the player he has the highest expectations for is Brett Baty. “The lineup will be lethal if Baty does good,” he said. The Mets have so much talent, and Baty is one of the young Mets players so if he does well, the Mets will be in good shape.

If the young Mets players step up, the Mets will be in good shape to make the postseason and make a run in the postseason. Vito said the player he thinks needs to step up is Francisco Alvarez. Alvarez was the top Mets prospect three years ago, and his rookie season was promising after hitting 25 homeruns and having a solid season. Unfortunately for Alvarez, injuries have affected him the last two seasons and affected his production.  Alvarez is off to a great start batting a .300, with an OBP of .400, slugging .633, with a 1.033 OPS. If Alvarez can stay healthy, he could have a big season helping the Mets get to the postseason and make a deep run in the postseason.

This Mets team has what it takes, but it’s all about putting it together to have a chance of reaching their goal of winning the World Series. Vito believes they are good enough to make the postseason and make a run in the postseason. He said that they have enough to make the playoffs or make a deep run. He believes the Mets can win 92 games and finish with a record of 92-70. If the Mets can win 92 games, they are likely to make the postseason and maybe even win their division, the NL East.

If the Mets can stay healthy, they have the pieces to be great and get to the postseason and make a run. The Mets have promising prospects who could contribute to the team this year and in the future. The Mets have gotten younger and with the team they have now and the prospects they have in the minor leagues, they are in good shape in the future. Mets fans are optimistic and hoping the Mets can get the job done and do something they haven’t done in 40 years, win the World Series. If the Mets’ young players can step up and stay healthy and everyone produces, they will be in good shape and have a good chance of getting to the postseason, making a run and maybe even winning the World Series.
