Students Tune In to Creativity with Herkimer’s Radio-TV Club

Herkimer College’s Radio-TV Club is one of the many student organizations on campus that gives students hands-on experience in media and broadcasting. Members have the opportunity to host podcasts and radio shows while learning about the full production process, from planning and recording to editing and airing.

The club also operates the college’s official radio station, 91.5 FM, which broadcasts 24 hours a day. The station features a smooth mix of jazz and blues, alongside student-run programming at select times throughout the week.

Professor Robert Gassmann guides students through the technical and creative sides of broadcasting, while Christos Gasparinatos, the club’s president and a Communication & Media student, leads efforts to make the club more engaging through new programming and events. Together, they hope to expand opportunities for members to express themselves and gain practical skills in media production.

The club plans to release a podcast every major holiday, with the goal of publishing new episodes on a biweekly basis. They also hope to eventually take a trip to New York City and use their budget to promote the club by making stickers and merchandise.

“It’s a great way for students who love being on camera or talking to people to get involved,” said Christos Gasparinatos, club president. “You get to meet new people, share ideas, and step out of your comfort zone while having fun with it.”

For students who love being on camera, working behind the camera, or simply meeting new people, the Radio-TV Club offers a space to experiment, collaborate, and build confidence one broadcast at a time.
