The Herkimer College Swim Team hit the road for the last chance invitational on Saturday, February 7. The Herkimer Swim Team took a long trip all the way to Erie Community College at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center to participate in their last regular meet of the season. They were swimming against Erie Community College and Genesee Community College. It was a very snowy Saturday morning, which made the travel day much longer than expected.
The start of the meet day was rough for a lot of swimmers. Most of the swimmers were not feeling their best whether it being tired or feeling sick they still put in their efforts at the meet. This meet was the last chance to cut time to qualify for nationals and try new events for the first time. Swimmers Alexis Egnew and Kelcey Main both tried out new events for the first time in this meet. Egnew swam the 500 freestyle and Main competed in the 100 Individual medley and 50 freestyle for the first time.
After the meet was finished, the swimmers were recovering from the effort they had put into the meet. Egnew said that she felt like a one out of ten after the meet was over, and Main said she had felt sick but hungry.
Herkimer’s Swim & Dive coach, Coach Nicholas Lanckton, was excited yet stressed going to this meet, mostly because of the weather and the length of the drive. During the meet he felt excited and confident in his team while they were preparing to swim their events. After the meet was over he said that he was pretty happy about how his team swam.
