Getting Involved with Clubs at Herkimer College

There are a good number of clubs a person can join at Herkimer College. If a club relates to your career, it is useful to participate and join the club. Being part of a club can be fun, but it really depends on how it fits you.

According to Director of Student Activities Vicki Brown, the most active clubs on campus are Culture, Gaming, Student Government, Criminal Justice, Cheer, PTA, and Anime. And, just because the other clubs are the most active doesn’t mean you have only those options.

Brown said that students should get involved in clubs for many reasons. One reason is that students who make a connection are more likely to stay at the college. Another reason is that clubs provide opportunities to do cool activities and go on field trips.

People can learn more about clubs by going to the website directory where there is a list of active clubs:

Bulletin boards in the hallway are another option to find out about clubs, as well as club fairs and talking to the club advisors.

The process of making a club active requires many steps. Students have to find an advisor. Next, they need 10 students to sign a petition, which is presented to the student government. The student government then votes on if the club becomes active. If the student government votes yes, the people who wanted to start the club or the student government must write a constitution.

Clubs are open to all students. Vicki Brown said “Clubs don’t need to do club related activities,” which means the clubs can have dinner or do an activity that doesn’t need to relate to the club’s topic.
