Welcome back Herkimer College students and staff from the Amnesty International Club.

ABOUT AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL’S WORK

Over many decades, Amnesty International has been recognized worldwide as the premier grassroots organization demanding human rights for every person and tackling the most pressing challenges to human rights. Amnesty International believes that every individual has the power and responsibility to take action and defend the inalienable and indivisible human rights of all people.

You can visit our Facebook page which began shortly after we became an official club at Herkimer College in 2009. By a search in The General, you can find articles from recent years on the group’s work and campaigns. One of Amnesty International’s current campaigns focuses on the upcoming 2024 election.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL: HELP PROTECT HUMAN RIGHTS THIS NOVEMBER

The world is watching to see who the U.S. elects this November: leaders who will actively protect human rights* or leaders who will actively deny them.

Pay attention. The future is created by what we do today.

Your vote is your voice.

Herkimer College Amnesty International encourages students to MAKE A PLAN to vote in the Nov. 5, 2024 elections.

This may involve voting in your home state, either by early voting or on election day OR applying for an absentee ballot.

If you are a Herkimer County resident, you can vote locally. Early voting and election day voting are both possible. · See https://vote.gov for more information on specific states voting times/places. You may also visit https://www.vote.org.

INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY

FINALLY, you can plan on celebrating the September 21 International Peace Day (https://internationaldayofpeace.org/) anytime by taking a selfie in front of Herkimer College’s Peace Pole, presently located in RMCC Upper Lobby and posting your picture on your own social media. You can pick up a peace quote poster to hold up outside the student activity office or simply show yourself in front of the pole. Let’s create a worldwide chain on Peace Day!
